You go, Girl . . . I mean, Lady

A few things about the First Lady.

She presented herself as one VERY classy First Lady. I understand it's politics and all, but her speech did sound "real" and unrehearsed - except for those beginning sentence stutters; kinda got old. But the Democratic party did it right. Amidst Republican outcry for less rights for women and THEIR choice for abortion - legitimate or otherwise - and no rights for gays and gay marriage, the Democrats spoke up and showed up.

It was hard not to notice that throughout her speech, the cameras panned to women of all races relating to what she said. Showing that there is an America that the Republicans would not and probably could not show because of lack of support. Check out Jon Stewart's Comedy Central bit on "The Daily Show" from the RNC where his roving reporters look for black and latino faces in the white sea. Hilarious!

In any case, Michelle Obama gave the gays a nod a couple times. To be honest, it warmed my heart to know that my party and my president supports me as a gay man despite what the rest of the world may say about it. When people say that they could give two shits about the social issues and more about the economic ones, I do. We will have economic issues with or without this president. But if elected into office, what will Romney/Paul do to my rights and women's or chance at them? My party had Tobias, an openly gay DNC treasurer, speak at the convention. Times have changed and I am here to live in it.

"Barack knows the American Dream because he's lived it...and he wants everyone in this country to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where we're from, or what we look like, or who we love."

"If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire...if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores...if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote...if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time...if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream...and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love...then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream."
